Summer: Wonderful (?) Weeds
One thing that gardeners must all agree on and that is weeds grow well in the summer garden. While we don’t want weeds in our garden, they are actually nature’s way of saving bare soil from eroding. If you notice any bare soil such as around a new building, you will soon see the weeds are growing there thick and fast.
The same thing happens in the bare soil of your own garden. Stir the soil up a little and before long you have a great crop of weeds. While weeds do rob our wanted plants of nutrients and water, they are not all bad news. When small, weeds can be hoed into the soil and left to rot, producing many nutrients for other plants. They add organic matter to the soil, helping it to become friable and easy to work.
If allowed to grow longer, most weeds are easy to pull out. They can then be left on top of the soil to form mulch, conserving moisture and gradually providing nutrients as they rot. However, some weeds should never be left in the garden. They can often take root again, or some are simply so tough that they keep on growing and producing seeds. So instead of one weed you may have several hundred to replace it. And some weeds are noxious pests and must be eradicated.
With summer weeds, it is not always easy to find out just what is safe to leave in the garden and what should be ruthlessly eliminated. Your gardening professional knows exactly what is safe to use for mulch and what is not. Employing a professional gardener means that your garden will grow only what it should each season and it will be the envy of the whole street.
Pulling weeds out is a time-consuming and tiring task. If it is not done when needed, you could have a garden full of weeds instead of flowers. You can find better and more pleasant things to do with your time. Spending time with a growing family is more important than working in the garden. But you still want to have the benefits that a great garden provides. The beauty of a garden provides food for the soul. It also makes your little bit of real estate a great deal more valuable. You can have all the benefits without the hard work by getting help from your local professional.
